U.S. Agency for International Development
Strategic Communications Public Relations Advisor
Objective: At USAID, I helped shape how the Agency communicated its global development and humanitarian work—partnering with teams across Washington, 80+ Missions, and NGOs to elevate local voices, coordinate Agency‑wide messaging, and strengthen the systems that connect stories, strategy, and impact.
Leadership and Development
Facilitated monthly meetings with the Strategic Communications Group (SCG) of 350+ Agency communicators to provide communications guidance.
Produced weekly Communications Playbook to provide timely messaging, priorities, and toolkits to Agency communications.
Developed a communications training program to build the capacity and skills of the communications workforce based on survey input from SCG.
Overhauled the structure of Agency-wide collaboration on strategic communications through the development and implementation of monthly cross-departmental coordination meetings on shared priorities.
Campaign Examples
Portfolio
Throughout my time at USAID, I led communications strategy and campaigns on the following portfolios:
Humanitarian crises, including Ukraine, Ethiopia, Sudan, Gaza, and communities recovering from natural disasters.
Global health
Food security
Inclusive development and Agency DEIA efforts
Localization
Conflict prevention and stabilization
Campaign priorities like Feed the Future, Democracy Delivers, Black Sea Grain Initiative, and COVID-19
Co-created the updated USAID Message Manual to provide streamlined guidance to the Agency on messaging and branding priorities.
Temporary Assignments to USAID Missions
I spent 6 weeks working with the USAID Moldova Mission and a month with the USAID Ecuador Mission to provide surge communications support, lead press strategy on high-level, diplomatic visits, onboard local staff, and coordinate with the U.S. Embassy on Administration priorities. Moldova and Ecuador were priority countries for Administrator Samantha Power’s Democracy Delivers program, so I also supported content development for campaign purposes while in-country, working with USAID partners implementing democracy programs.
